Meet Maureen Maus (pronounced Moss) our new voice instructor.
Tell us about yourself and how you got started with TEC?
I am a graduate of Moody Bible Institute with a Bachelor of Music – voice emphasis in 2008. I moved to Geneva, IL in August of 2012 to be the Music Director at Faith Christian Academy in Geneva. When FCA closed in 2015, some parents of my former students asked me to teach their middle school children in a homeschooling environment. My middle school students have since moved on to high school, and I recently got married this past March.
I heard about TEC from a lady in my church who contacted me to tell me that they were looking for a voice teacher. My passion is for music, particularly teaching private lessons, so I enthusiastically jumped at the chance to join TEC!
How long have you been with TEC?
This will be my first year at TEC, and I’m excited to meet everyone!
What classes do you teach and tell us a little bit of each one, if more than one subject?
I offer private and group (2-4 students) voice lessons, where students learn how to breathe properly when singing, how to match pitch, how to understand basic musical notation, count rhythm, and improve their stage presence and self confidence. I love seeing kids gain confidence through learning how to sing.
What are you looking forward to the most at our new location in North Aurora?
The new location is perfect for me, because my husband and I recently bought our first house in North Aurora just down the street from the new TEC location.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy being a stay-at-home wife, and one of the things I enjoy is cooking. I like finding recipes online and experimenting with various flavor palates. I enjoy walking and playing with my dog, a shaggy female rescue named Rory. I am also a bit of a Star Wars nerd. May the Force be with you!
